Ain't Nothing Sweeter
...than us Georgia Peaches.

Rhiannon and I are moving to Georgia!!! We have been talking for years about where we wanted to move to start our newest adventure. We have loved being in Michigan but the snow and the lack of sun most of the year is really taking a toll on both of our mental health.
At the beginning of last year, we decided that it was time to leave Michigan. At the time, we were looking at moving to Orlando in November. Then Rhiannon was laid off and I had a mental breakdown (unrelated to her being laid off). I was struggling with leaving the theatre and the thought of leaving the friends and family that we have here. So, we decided to wait. During this past year, we spent some time with my family in Georgia. I started wondering what it would look like if we moved to my hometown. I didn't say anything to Rhiannon at first because I wanted to be sure this is what I wanted before bringing it up.
When I finally did say something, Rhiannon told me that she had been thinking the same thing but wasn't sure where I was at on that idea. When I left Georgia, I was not in a very good place, mentally. I had a lot of trauma attached to that city and the people who lived there, mainly my mother. My BPD was unmanaged and I was not a pleasant person to be around. I knew nothing about living on my own. I was impulsive. I was reckless. Rhiannon was worried that going back to the place that I had to leave in order to heal, was possibly going to be a trigger for me.
So much has changed since I left home over 10 years ago. My mother left the state. I have been in therapy and my BPD no longer controls my life. I have learned what healthy family relationships look like. I have gotten closer with my dad and stepmom because of this. I have learned how beneficial boundaries are with friends and family. I have learned how to say "no" and it be a full sentence. I have learned how to budget, to cook, and to take care of my own space. I know that it is okay to lean on others and to ask for help. These are all things that I have learned from the people here in Michigan. I will be going back a new, stronger, healthier person.
Are there times I may have some triggers that come up, sure...I lived there for 25 years and went through a lot of hard times. But I am not worried at all. I have an incredible support system now. I have my beautiful, strong, supportive wife. I have my dad and stepmom, who I am open with about the abuse and trauma that I did endure when I lived there at the hands of my mother. I have my friends, who I cannot wait to reconnect and grow with. I will have my therapist, who I could not be more grateful for. And I will still have all of the friends and family here in Michigan who have given me the confidence and love I needed to be able to move back and be successful.
So....when is all of this happening? Rhiannon and I will be putting in applications for 2 apartments next month with a move in date set for December 11th! It is all coming together beautifully and we are so excited to take you on this adventure with us!
